"Alienate" means to make someone feel like an outsider, unwelcome, or disconnected from a group - to push someone away emotionally, often without meaning to, or sometimes on purpose. A leader who never listens to their team can alienate the people working for them. A new policy that ignores one group's needs might alienate that whole community. It's a word about relationships and belonging going wrong.
