1. 1

Aldershot is a town in Hampshire, in the south of England, known as an important centre for the British army. From the 1850s the army built a huge camp there, and the town grew up around soldiers, army buildings, and training. People still call it the home of the British Army. It is an ordinary town in other ways — shops, houses, a football club — but the army story is why the name keeps appearing in history, in the news, and in sport. It is a garrison town, not a seaside holiday place.
