Aldeburgh is a small town on the North Sea coast in Suffolk, in the east of England. For a long time it lived by fishing and by the sea. What many people know it for now is music: every summer there is a festival of concerts and performances. The composer Benjamin Britten lived nearby and helped make that festival famous, so the town's name turns up in writing about British music as much as in writing about the coast. It is a quiet, windy place, popular with visitors who like the sea, old streets, and the festival — not a big city.
