An airstrip is a long, narrow piece of land that a plane can take off from or land on — and that is almost all it is. Grass, packed earth, or a simple paved ribbon. No big terminal, often no shops, sometimes not even a control tower. You find them on islands, at farms, by a military camp, or in the countryside. An airport is the whole place with buildings and rules; an airstrip is just the strip. Though actually, people stretch it: a tiny airfield with one hangar may still get called an airstrip. Neutral, practical, a little old-fashioned; news and travel writing use it a lot for remote places.
