An airshow is a public event where people watch planes fly, often doing very complicated movements in the sky — loops, fast low passes, old war planes, parachutes, sometimes a national display team. People stand on the ground and look up. It is also written as two words, air show; both names are the same event. In Taiwan you will meet this at open days on air-force bases. It is live, noisy, and outdoors. Though actually, it is not a television programme, not a talk show about the weather, and not a show that “shows you the air.” The air is just where the planes are. Everyday English also just says air show; the one-word spelling is common in writing and on posters.
