If you say or do something airily, you do it as if it were light and not a problem — you are not worried, or you do not treat the thing as serious. The voice is easy, almost floating. That can sound calm and confident, but it can also sound as if you do not care, or as if you are brushing someone off. “She airily said it would be fine” often means she did not really look at the trouble. It comes from airy, which can mean light, open, and not heavy; airily is the ‘in that manner’ form. It is a little literary: you meet it in stories and in slightly careful speech more than in playground talk. It never means “by plane” or “in the air.”
