An air-kiss is a greeting that looks like a kiss on the cheek but does not quite touch. You lean in, your face comes near the other person's face, and your lips make a kiss in the air beside them — sometimes with a little sound. It belongs to social life more than to love: fashion, cameras, parties, and places where people greet with cheek-kisses but do not want real contact (lipstick, germs, or simply not being that close). It can feel warm, or it can feel a bit fake, depending on who does it and why. Younger people may laugh at it; in some European and show-business circles it is just manners. It is not the same as blowing a kiss with your hand from far away.
