1. 1

Agincourt is the English name for a famous battle in northern France in 1415. King Henry V of England won against a much larger French army. English school memory keeps two things: the muddy field and the English , and Shakespeare’s play Henry V, which puts scenes of this battle on the stage. It is a place name used as the name of the battle. You will meet it in history class and in that play, not in daily talk. Though actually, the French village is spelled Azincourt; English kept an older form. Do not look for a person called Agincourt — it is the place, and the battle.
