AFC is short for the American Football Conference. In the United States there is a big professional league called the NFL. It is split into two groups of teams: the AFC and the NFC (National Football Conference). During the season, teams mostly play others in their own conference. At the end, the winner of the AFC plays the winner of the NFC in the Super Bowl. Inside the AFC there are smaller groups too, such as AFC East or AFC North; fans talk about those a lot. This is American football — the US game with helmets and an oval ball — not the football Taiwan usually means. People who follow the NFL say the letters A-F-C as a name, not as a full phrase.
