Aeronautical is the describing word for things that belong to : the science and engineering of how planes (and similar flying machines) are designed and flown. An aeronautical engineer works on aircraft; aeronautical charts are maps pilots use. Though actually, everyday English often prefers aviation or aircraft (aviation industry, aircraft engineer). Aeronautical sounds more like a textbook or a job title. It is not a noun: you do not study aeronautical on its own — you study , or you do aeronautical engineering. And it is about flight in the air around Earth, not travel in space; that neighbouring idea is astronautical or aerospace.

From aero- + nautical.
aero-（空氣、飛行）加 nautical（航海的）。
組成aero- (air) + nautical (to do with sailors and ships). The naut piece is sailor — flying talked about as sailing the air. Same pieces as aeronautics, with an adjective ending.
