This sense lives in a set phrase. Without further ado, or without more ado, means ‘now, without waiting, without extra talk or fuss.’ A host says it before they start: ‘Without further ado, here is our guest.’ The word ado by itself is an old noun meaning fuss, busy noise, trouble about something — Much Ado About Nothing is a famous title, and it means a lot of noise about a small thing. So ‘without ado’ is ‘without that fuss.’ It is a little theatrical and a little old, but people still say it when they want to sound as if they are getting on with it. You would not say ‘I had an ado’ in modern talk, and you would not use ado by itself to mean ‘delay.’

組成From northern Middle English at do (‘to do’), the infinitive of do. Influenced by an Old Norse habit of marking the infinitive with at (compare Danish at gå, ‘to go’). So the word is an old way of saying a ‘to-do’ — busyness, fuss.
