An adman is someone — traditionally a man — who works in advertising: thinking up ads, selling ideas, talking to clients, running campaigns. It is informal, and a little old-fashioned. Magazines, films, and older news still like the word because it is short and colourful. Though actually, the job was never only men, and today many people just say “someone in advertising” or “an ad person,” because adman quietly assumes a male worker. It names the person, not the whole business (that is closer to ).
