The addressee is the person a letter, package, or formal message is addressed to — the one whose name is on the front, the one it is meant for. It is not the . It is a neat, slightly official word: post office, forms, legal letters, office English. In ordinary talk people say who it’s to or the person you’re sending it to. Though actually, it is useful exactly because it makes a clean pair with : one , one receives. The -ee ending marks the person on the receiving side of the action.
