    Acme is a rather old, rather grand word for the highest point of something — the moment or the level when it is as good, as strong, or as successful as it will ever be. You might say a singer is at the acme of her career. It is not street English; you will meet it in books more than in chat. Though actually, a lot of English speakers know the word first as a fake company name. In old American cartoons, especially Looney Tunes, Acme is the company that sells the coyote his wild machines. Real American companies also used Acme a hundred years ago, partly because it means “the best,” and partly because A sits early in the alphabet, so the name came near the top of phone books. Some people will tell you Acme stands for “A Company Making Everything.” That is a joke that got repeated until it sounded true. It does not.

組成Borrowed from Ancient Greek ἀκμή (akmḗ), “point; high point.” As a company name it is simply this word used to mean “the best.” The screw-thread sense comes from a real 1894 maker, the Acme Screw Machine Company of Hartford, Connecticut.
