An abortionist is someone who performs abortions — who ends a pregnancy. ’s dictionaries add “especially illegally,” and that “especially” matters. For a long time the word pointed to a person doing this outside the law, often in secret, and it still carries a cold or attacking tone. Doctors who do this work in hospitals rarely call themselves abortionists; they say they provide abortions, or they use their medical job title. You will hear abortionist most from people arguing against the practice, or in history writing about illegal abortions. Treat it as a loaded word, not a neutral job name.
為人施行墮胎者(尤指非法;語帶貶義。台灣口語說「墮胎」,較不說「人工流產」。)
