In the Old Testament, Abel is the second son of Adam and Eve. His Cain kills him — the first murder in that story. Abel is the quiet, good ; he offers a gift that God accepts, and Cain’s angry jealousy is the reason. People use the name as a given name as well, but this entry is that Bible figure. In talk you may hear “Cain and Abel” for two brothers, or two sides, where one turns on the other.
