Abasement is the noun for that lowering. It is the act of abasing someone, or the state of having been brought down in pride, rank, or self-respect. You can speak of the abasement of a prisoner, or of self-abasement when a person puts themselves at someone else's feet on purpose. Like the verb, it is formal and bookish; daily English is more likely to say humiliation, shame, or being put down. The idea of behaving as if another person has complete power over you is one common use, especially in self-abasement. It is not a mild apology. It names a deep coming-down.
