Abandonment is what happens when someone or something is completely left behind, given up on, or walked away from — usually a person, place, or plan that still needed care or attention. It carries real emotional weight: 'fear of abandonment' describes the deep worry that someone you love will leave you and never come back, often something people carry from childhood. It is also used more , for leaving a plan or place behind, like 'the abandonment of the building project'.
