A 99 is a British ice cream: a cone of soft ice cream with a thin stick of chocolate pushed in the top. The chocolate is usually a Flake. You buy it from an ice-cream van or a seaside kiosk and ask for “a 99.” It is cheerful, everyday British — a treat with a name, not a number you are counting. Though actually, nobody is quite sure why it is called a 99; people tell different stories, so it is safer to treat it as just the name of that ice cream. In Taiwan you will not hear this. A similar-looking 甜筒 is simply a 甜筒.
